The Story of Cadenza.
Once upon a
time, about twenty
years ago, in the Northern part of the
kingdom
of Aotearoa, was born a dream.
The dream
was to birth an
entity that celebrated and assembled together truly
classical specimens, representing
the continuation of the age old
art of musical
instrument design ,
craftmanship and
construction .
This oasis
of "musical/arts/n/craft"
was to be hopefully devoid of
the commercially driven
preponderence of post modern technoplastic gizmos
typically
encountered in bulk, when visiting the Music store of the
21st
century.
These stores
have an
observed lack of the richness
and diversity of
our musical heritage,......they are somewhat rootless.
The Cadenza
dream ,essentially
to create a live ,working, playing , musical extravaganza
museum
, bringing together, in harmony a
satisfying , fun
selection of old, or just plain interesting musical
instruments, a living museum exuding warm ambience, where all
the
exhibits would be for sale, many from a bygone era, and best of all,
most at temptingly affordable prices........Linking the
musical
past to the present.
To
complement the instruments, a
great variety of music scores would also be made
readily
available, just like the instruments that would play them, of all
vintages, to be brought back to life again and
again, as
often as desired, the creative genius of the great
composers, both ancient and modern..
For most
of this period in the
history of Cadenza , Auckland's suburban North shore
population was
offered a retail music
centre with a difference, that
incorporated several
other like minded music businesses.
There were
Instrument Workshops
providing repair and restoration services, they frequently performed
all manner of life saving operations.
For many
years The Cadenza Music
Centre combined to provide a full range of musical instruments, ( in
particularl Pianos , the entire orchestral family ,and all
manner
of Guitars and folk instruments) .
Upstairs
there was a large and ever
growing three room selection of printed
music, especially
popular ,our second hand sheet music and
music books
department.
The
Cadenza song library /
archive , containing many thousands of songs, that
date back well over a century has been and
continues
to be an attractive solution when a desired song is
out of
print, and no longer commercially available.
The old two
story Victorian character
building that housed the Cadenza emporium, eventually became
the
victim of urban growth.
It was
demolished to make way for a futuristic twenty two story apartment
tower.
Today
Cadenza
Music is now located on
S.H.27 ,a pleasant rural two hours drive South of Auckland at
Matamata, (Nearby to the luxuriant Middle
Earth setting of Hobbiton, the
location chosen for
the Movie The Lord of the Rings).
